Haochi in Beijing: Yunan Weidao
This tiny joint is one of the more authentic Yunan places in town. There are just 4 tables and a wall covered with post-its from happy patrons. Pictured are salt and pepper shrimp, their specialty grilled fish, scrambled eggs and jasmine buds, egg yolk battered mushrooms, and the ubiquitous 'crossing the bridge' rice noodles with all the fixings. Everything was cheerful and under 30 rmb, highly recommended!

Green T. Living, Wabi Sabi, and one awesome birthday meal.
Here are some photos from my lovely birthday dinner at Green T. Living in Shunyi. Probably my favorite use of design in space and concept in the city, maybe even the world. Next time I'll bring my wide angle lens so you can get a sense of the awe-inducing interior. There was a spa behind the restaurant that we got a tour of also- just won best international design award for a spa the Wallpaper Mag 2010 awards. If I ever find myself with 10,000rmb; let me tell you, that is the first place I'll go to drop it, and you're invited.
Also picked up a book in the lifestyle store; Wabi Sabi- the Japanese Art of Impermanence. A philosophy/way of life/ideal based on Zen teachings. Reading through it now. Incredibly inspired.
I'm not obsessed with sleeping people
Ok, maybe I am.
But they make the best subjects to photograph! Still as a corpse.
Seriously though, don't you envy her? Napping under the gentle sunlight and swaying willow trees of Beihai park, if we could all be so at peace...
another year, another adventure
I've been working around the clock lately, and feel like i'm losing my sanity and at the very least my eyesight sitting in front of my mac all day long.
I realized I didn't even post on my birthday, and how uncharacteristic that is. Looking back on last year had me a feeling a bit wistful as I was here same time last year. But a private island with a lemongrass scented villa is perhaps only for those dreamers in us. I need to shake the sand off my flip flops some time.
This year brought another 365 days of great changes, I find myself now in Beijing, sitting in an ancient hutong, watching the sun set over the tiled courtyard rooftops. Where will I be this time next year?
I've got some lovely photos from last weekend, when Josh came to visit and we embarked on many adventures in parks, through hutongs, and through dining experiences unrivalled in my time in China.
I'll break them into chunks so I have something to look forward to, here's the first set of photos.
